Although you have been placed in regular English 1 for your first high school English course, if you read at a faster pace, with greater comprehension than average, you are encouraged to participate in the enrichments and assignments provided here. If you complete all assignments to the 80% level, you will be awarded an “X” designation on your transcript. This marker tells colleges that you have completed work at a higher standard than that achieved by students in the regular English class.
Students who wish to participate in the English 1X enrichment
program
must do the following:
1. Read 2 additional, more complex texts.
2. Write essays in a 6-part paragraph format.
3. Address more advanced issues in discussion and
writing assignments.
4. Write both poetry and short stories.
5. Receive more teacher feedback on their thinking
and writing.
6. Interact with other students who possess both
the interest and ability to do advanced work in English.
Other Considerations:
1. The program’s requirements and expectations will
